Kaetie’s Birthday

Adventure Challenge

This adventure challenge is designed to bring your birthday squad closer together and get you to explore the surrounding area while staying safe and healthy. Please follow the current CDC guidelines and your local authorities for the best ways to protect yourselves and those in your community.

Here Are The Rules

Read each challenge carefully and click on any provided links to view helpful pictures, videos, and requirements for each challenge.

Complete as many challenges as you can in the given time frame. Challenges can be completed in any order. Challenges are often designed to bring you together through fun, difficult, or embarrassing experiences, so complete whatever challenges you and your group are comfortable with. Just be sure to create some unforgettable moments and content that your group will cherish forever!

Some challenges may require a few basic supplies to complete them. Figuring out how to obtain these supplies somewhere in the area is part of the strategy so work together and use what you’ve got to get what you need.

Team members need to stay together throughout the adventure, however, if you are all at the same location and searching for an item you can spread out until it is found and then regroup to take the necessary picture/video.

Capture as many team members in your picture or video as possible. When out in the community, teams often ask a kind stranger to take their picture or video so that the entire team can get on film. If it's necessary to have someone on your own team film certain challenges be sure to rotate who that person is so that everyone is actively involved in completing challenges throughout the adventure.

#1: Anywhere around Grapevine find one of the life-sized sleighs (not just a small toy or picture of one). Once you’ve found one take a video of your group all doing a choreographed dance to the song “Sleigh Ride (PhatCap Trap Remix)”. The song can be heard by clicking HERE. Along the way, have each team member create one short dance move and then work together to compile the moves into one epic arrangement. Feel free to fully utilize the sleigh as part of your dance with some people in it, some on ground level, or whatever looks best. And decide as a team where in the song you want your dance to begin, such as when the beat drops around the 25 second mark.

#2: Take a video of your team successfully completing the Whipped Cream Catapult Challenge (click the link at the end of the description to see it performed properly). There are two options for completing this depending on your Covid comfort level with the other members of your team. Option #1 is to divide your team into pairs. Have someone squirt a dollop (small lump) of whipped cream onto the back of their hand. Have the other person stand a few feet away from them ready to catch the whipped cream in their mouth. The person with the whipped cream on their hand will swing their arm back, palm down. When that hand gets back in front of them at about waist height, they’ll strike their wrist with their other free hand, causing the whipped cream to go flying. The second person should successfully catch the whipped cream in their mouth, or at least catch some of it in their mouth and the rest on their face. For this option, at least half your team should make a successful catch in the video. For Option #2 each team member will put the whipped cream on the back of their own hand and fling it up to themselves, at least 3 feet above their head. For this option everyone on the team would need to make a successful catch in the video. To understand the challenge better and to watch a video of a team successfully completing it click HERE.

#3: Get to the Texas General Store on Main Street. Head inside and search for the birthday message that is on display for Kaetie somewhere in the store. Once you’ve found it take a fun team picture with the message and follow their IG account (@TexasGeneralStore) or mention them if you post the picture after this adventure.

#4: Kaetie has been on this Earth for 5,474 days and throughout that time you all have likely used Scotch Tape for just about everything. Well, except this. To honor this incredibly versatile American-made product take a fun team picture after everyone uses Scotch tape to stretch and distort their faces. For some inspiration click HERE.

#5: Get your team to the Mistletoe Booth shown HERE, which is located somewhere here in Grapevine. Once there take a fun team picture where Kaetie is standing in the middle of the booth with her chin resting on her hands and everyone else is standing off to either side blowing her a kiss to show her some love.

#6: Get to any grassy surface and take a video of your team all completing the Group Sit & Stand Challenge. Basically, your team members will all be standing shoulder to shoulder in a tight clump/circle with your backs all facing in and your arms interlocked. Slowly lower the entire interlocked group to the ground until you are in a seated position with your butt on the ground, and then slowly stand back up while remaining interlocked. #7: Get your team to the large blue letters prominently displayed here in Grapevine that spell out the word “Believe”. Once there, work together as a team to all lift Kaetie to the shoulder level of your group and have someone take a picture while you’re holding her up. Be very careful to lower her down with her feet touching first. To fully complete the challenge though, have Kaetie post that picture to her preferred social media platform and then have every team member comment with “I believe…” and then say something uplifting you believe she can realistically accomplish in either the coming year, or in life. She can then continue to look back at this post for motivation, and everyone that comments can act as a support network for those things you believe she can achieve.

#8: Research shows that consuming raw garlic can boost your immune system. So take a video of all your team members each chewing a separate raw clove of garlic for at least 15 full seconds. Team members should be actively chewing the clove and not just holding it in their mouths. Disclaimer, although healthy this will likely not be pleasant, which is exactly the point.

#9: Find the awesome Elf mural shown HERE. It is on the side of a business whose name includes a Spanish word for a color. This secret place is about a half mile off of Main Street so you can decide as a team whether you want to find it on foot or in a vehicle. Once there take a memorable team picture while everyone in the group imitates the expression Elf has in the mural.

#10: Take a video of any one team member successfully completing the OREO Face Challenge. Place an Oreo on your forehead and using only your facial muscles and gravity attempt to move the cookie down your face and into your mouth without grabbing it with your hand or having it fall off. If it falls off place the cookie back on your forehead and try again. All team members can be attempting the challenge but only one needs to successfully complete it. #11: This week marked the 80th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. A statue here in Grapevine called “Coming Home”, located at 705 South Main Street, depicts the emotional return of a soldier from service. At some point during the adventure, stop and see the statue up close and take notice of the expressions on the figure’s faces. Spend a quiet minute with it thinking of those that won’t be home this holiday season. Then anywhere around town find an active military person or a veteran and take a video of them watching your entire team doing 10 push-ups or sit-ups at their feet to honor their strength and courage. After you’ve finished recording, spend a few minutes learning more about their time in the service before you depart, as a small gesture of appreciation.

#12: Find the larger than life Santa figurine shown HERE. Once you’ve located him take a fun team picture creating a scene where everyone is peeking at his list to find out whether their name is on it this year. Have some act ecstatic, shocked, disappointed, jealous, etc.

#13: As a team use the provided supplies and accessories to wrap Kaetie up like an authentic Christmas present that you might find under the tree. Work together to cover her entirely with wrapping paper, ribbon, bows, and whatever else you think your gift deserves. Just be sure to leave enough of an opening so that she can breath properly. Take some videos throughout the decorating process, and then snap a memorable team picture with your gift once you’re done.

#14: Get to either of the two locations shown HERE, which feature Rudolph and/or his reindeer friends. Once there, line up as if each of you were one of the reindeer in position to pull Santa’s sleigh, with Kaetie in front and then everyone in pairs lined up behind her. Then work together as a team to time a jump and have someone snap your picture while you’re all in mid-air to create the effect that you’re taking off into the night.

#15: Take a video of at least half the members on your team completing the "Bite The Bag" challenge. Stand on one leg, bend down and grab a brown paper bag with your teeth and lift it up as you stand back up on one foot. Must remain on one foot the entire time and can not use your arms, hold onto anything, or bump into anything else. Everyone on your team can be attempting this challenge with their own bag, but only half of the team needs to do it successfully in order to complete the challenge. To watch a video of someone successfully completing this challenge click HERE.

#16: Find a postcard that features this area in some way or a greeting card designed by a local artist and purchase it. Then click HERE to go to the Postcard Happiness Project website and scroll down to the profile for John Craig, an adult with Downs Syndrome from Oregon that loves to receive mail. On your postcard include a fun or uplifting message and sign it with your names or your group name. The mailing address for John can be found in his profile description. Stamp your card and take a picture with it to show you've completed your Act Of Kindness.
